The organising committee for the 4th edition of the Lafarge Lusaka Marathon is thrilled by the increased number of participants ahead of the marathon set for Saturday April, 29 2017.

The marathon has attracted a total number 1,220 registration as of today and is gradually attracting more participation as we approach the event.

The record number of hopefuls - an increase of more than 300 on the 2016 total speaks volumes of massive growth of the marathon over the years.

The main marathon which is 42.195 Kilometres has 69 participants, the 21 Kilometres half marathon has a total of 249 entries.

The 10Km Road Race and the 5Km Health Walk have a total 394 and 508 entries respectively.

“The popularity of the Lafarge Lusaka Marathon continues to rise high. Our target is to ensure the race establishes itself as world renowned marathon and can be the flagship for the capital city like many other races. We are still doing more to ensure we have a much bigger number of participants as well as attract international athletes to participate," said Elias Mpondela, Chairman of the Lafarge Lusaka Marathon (LLM).

A total of K110, 500 has been reserved as prize money for winners from who will take the first to eighth position in the various races.

The organising committee urges members of the public and more stake holders to secure registration and be part of this year’s marathon which has an aerobics mania as an addition to the various races that will be taking place.

All participants will have the medical insurance cover through our cooperating partners, Maddison Insurance.

Our gratitude also extends to other partners such as Hai Technology, H2o, First National Bank (FNB), Total Zambia, Levy Business Park, Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA), Lusaka City Council (LCC), Zambia Police among many others.
